To become famous and do well in the music industry is a difficult road and one that takes a lot of effort and patience. Several singers have made it to the big time but not as many musicians that are pianists have been as fortunate. This article explore three current female musicians who are all extremely talented pianists too. So remove that piano cover and piano bench covers off your piano and take the time to learn about three of the greatest female musicians who can rock out at the piano too. The musicians that will be mentioned are Norah Jones, Sheryl Crow and Natalie Merchant.
Sheryl Crow was born in 1962 in Missouri and received wonderful musical talent handed down to her from her parents who were members of a local band. Due to the fact that her family owned three pianos, she was introduced to that instrument at a small age and soon loved singing along with it too. Her career started as a backup singer and was a singer for Michael Jackson’s BAD tour. After being a backup singer, she decided to break out on her own and turned into a successful folk, pop, rock singer releasing several great albums. She is often seen singing with her guitar but also enjoys sitting down at her piano to sing too. She still performs and is juggling her musical career follwoing the adoption of her son as a single Mom.
Natalie Merchant is another top female musician who not only is a fine pianist but a great singer who enjoys writing songs and composing too. She started out her musical career as a member of the band called 10,000 Maniacs in 1981 and they were very successful selling a lot of albums. She then decided to break out into a solo career in 1995 when she made her 1st solo album named, “Tiger lily”. Merchant’s music is typically seen on different charts as her music crosses several types of genres. Her fans love how she often sings about social and political matters that are going on now and her soulful voice and knack for bringing the audience in when she is on stage.
Norah Jones is another amazing singer and songwriter in addition to a talented musician who can play both the guitar and the piano beautifully. She is a stunning performer who was encouraged by her Indian father who is a sitarist and her American mom who is a dancer. She went to University of North Texas to be a jazz piano major and was fortunate enough then to meet Jesse Harris who was responsible for launching her career. Norah Jones made her 1st album in 2002 named, “Come Away With Me” and has won 8 Grammy awards for her talents some of them being album of the year, record of the year and best new artist.
Most people think of these three ladies as singers and do not realize that their musical careers really started as pianists. They all think they were pianists 1st and singers second.
