Three Pieces of Advice for Any Homeowner Desiring to Remodel

Author: admin  //  Category: Gardening

The tiny bathroom located between the two downstairs bedrooms looked as though it was badly in need of a facelift. Aside from the soft pink fixtures that dominated the room, the floor was a marbled mixture of pink, blue and yellow linoleum that was awkward looking to say the least and did nothing to compliment the room itself. When they originally bought the house the buyers, Jasmine and Chad, had thought they would update this room as one of their first priorities. That was soon changed when the furnace and air conditioning systems had to be replaced and they found that their extra money had to go toward that emergency purchase. Finally they had saved enough money to make possible a remodel that would upgrade this bath to make it match the rest of the house. They made the initial step by consulting with a plumbing company who specialized in complete remodeling of kitchens and baths. They made the plunge and choose a modern white tub, sink and toilet that complimented the room. The old linoleum was replaced with ceramic tile that was easy to keep clean and made the room look larger. Jasmine applied a soft jade green paint to the walls that created a pleasing effect and she went shopping for chrome towel bars trimmed in porcelain. She completed the look with shower curtain rods of chrome and a fabric shower curtain that made a big difference in softening the edges of the room. Gorgeous jade towels hung from the towel bars and the walls were outfitted with suitable shelves and stocked with guest soaps and lotions. Jasmine and Chad were very pleased with the end results.

Whenever a remodel such as the one described above is planned and carried out, there are three main things to keep in mind:

1. Get an estimate in writing – When dealing with a contractor it is essential to ask for a comprehensive listing of how the work will be completed along with a written estimate. This is a safeguard that will make certain that the work will be fully completed according to the homeowner specifications and that no portion of the job will be omitted.

2. Get references – Any reputable business will be happy to furnish the names of satisfied customers as references. These people should be questioned in regard to the quality of the work completed as well as the business habits of the company which would include showing up when promised and completing work in a timely manner.

3. Get a report from the Better Business Bureau – This is a simple process that consists of calling the Better Business Bureau in your area and checking to find out the track record of any company you are thinking about using. Usually the only thing required is the phone number of the company you wish a report on to receive information regarding how the company performed at least for three years prior to your request. Not only does it report the number of complaints but the report lets you know how and when the complaint came to a resolution and if there are any outstanding complaints still unresolved.
